Best Buy, today only, is offering the Motorola Luge for Verizon Wireless for $49.99. The Luge is the prepaid-trim version of the DROID RAZR M that was sold originally in 2012. The remaining stock was rebadged and sold as the Luge on prepaid.
While Motorola has said that this phone won’t be upgraded to Lollipop (despite sharing internals with the Nexus 4, which has Lollipop already), it’s hard to argue with this deal. For $50, you get an unlocked Verizon phone that can be used both on postpaid Verizon plans, as well as Page Plus LTE monthly plans too.
The phone features a microSD card slot and comes out of the box with a relatively-stock KitKat 4.4.2.
Like the RAZR M, you may not want to try and use this on other carriers. At the time Verizon was running afoul of FCC unlocking mandates by neutering the baseband to reject American GSM carrier IDs. It’s possible that the Luge has gone a step further and totally disabled GSM roaming in order to comply with said mandate – we can’t confirm that. Since it’s a prepaid phone however, it’s likely a feature you won’t miss.
Note that like most Verizon devices, the bootloader cannot be unlocked. While third-party firmwares support this device, Motorola is prohibited by Verizon from letting you do what you want with your own phone.
In for one.
Can this phone be put on an existing page plus account?
So to put this old “new” prepaid phone on Page Plus, there is no 6 month period I must wait having it on Verizon’s prepaid to switch over and activate on an existing Page plus account. I’ve tried to get a brand new purchased Verizon Moto G on Page plus and was told I couldn’t.
Anyone knows for sure that this can go on an existing Page Plus line? Anyone?
Yes, this will work with Page Plus LTE plans.
Thanks. I’ll go try to buy it again. When I tried to buy it a guy at Best Buy said it was activation locked to Verizon. Never heard of that though.
