Verizon Wireless has issued a new firmware update for the Motorola E815. Version 8720_01.1E.0R makes several improvements including camera performance as well as fixes the alarm clock ensuring it will go off at programmed times. However, it is important to note that this update will disable the device’s ability to be used as a modem, for which there currently is no workaround. To update your E815, take your phone to your local Verizon Wireless store, and ask for the update by version number.

Update: The update actually only disables EV-DO tethering, 1xRTT-only still works. Also if you have a data access plan (such as Verizon’s $40/$60 addons), EV-DO tethering will work again. This update enforces Verizon’s view of the VCast terms of service.
