Verizon Motorola Droid Xyboard 10.1 LTE Gets ICS Update

Verizon’s Motorola Droid Xyboard 10.1 Android tablet variant with LTE may be one of the few carrier variants of the Xyboard series to still receive support as the carrier has begun to roll out Android Ice Cream Sandwich starting earlier today. The update includes all of the key features present in Ice Cream Sandwich, such as the revamped lock screen with customizable shortcuts to key functionality, folder support for applications, built-in data counter and specific fixes for data connectivity issues. The update  is being pushed over the air, though Verizon has so far not given a timeline on how long the rollout will last from today. It pushes the system software to version 11.11.27.MZ617.Verizon.en.US.

As the Motorola Droid Xyboard series is the defacto successor to the Motorola Xoom, the continued support for the series is rather surprising, given both models weren’t exactly breaking sales records, with the Xoom being given a much larger marketing push compared to the Droid Xyboard, which barely garnered much in the way of media attention when the series launched last year along with the relaunch of the Xoom. Verizon also has yet to confirm any sort of update for the smaller 8.2 version of the Droid Xyboard, although given that the 10.1 inch version is being updated, it should merely be a matter of time before its own update is rolled out.
