Verizon Launches Motorola DROID 3

Verizon has announced the online launch of the third edition of the Motorola Droid Android smartphone. The phone is an extensive upgrade from the Droid 2 and Droid 2 Global variant in terms of hardware by featuring a dual-core 1 GHz processor, 8.0-megapixel camera with1080p video capture, Android 2.3, dual-mode CDMA/GSM support, 4-inch qHD resolution display, a redesigned 5-row QWERTY keyboard and 3G Mobile Hotspot support along with video output and 1080p mirroring support on larger displays. The Droid 3 is also the first 3G only Android smartphone on Verizon to feature a front-facing camera for video calls and chat, a feature usually relegated to 4G LTE smartphones.

The Droid 3 also features the same enterprise support as the DROID Pro with advanced security policies, device and SD card encryption, complex password support, remote data wipe of device and SD card; Quickoffice® as well as including Citrix® GoToMeeting® and Citrix Receiver® for Android to allow companies to deliver internal corporate apps, desktops and data to any corporate or employee-owned device.

Pricing for the DROID 3 is set at $459.99 retail or $199.99 after new 2 year agreement with mandatory data plan. The phone will be available to the rest of Verizon’s retail channels on July 14th.
