RCR Wireless has confirmed that Sprint’s upcoming mobile TV service, VUE, will be powered by Qualcomm’s MediaFLO technology. MediaFLO is a satellite-driven technology which relies on satellite-communication for the forward (or download) link, while relying on a terrestrial 1xRTT/EV-DO network for managing the subscription services and channel access.
Sprint has not disclosed details of its VUE service, plans and pricing will be disclosed before the service launches, which is expected at the start of next year. Verizon Wireless has previously announced that they too plan to use MediaFLO for their future mobile TV offerings.
