LG has taken to CES to launch the successor to the unique curved G Flex smartphone first released in 2013 and then launched last year in the West. The G Flex 2 is more of the same, only this time it takes most of the key specifications from the G3 and slightly shrinks the display to 5.5-inches with an upgraded 1080p resolution.

The curved plastic OLED panel now features a Gorilla Glass 3 coating to help prevent damage, and the rear cover’s self-healing powers have also been improved. The G Flex 2 is now powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 810 processor with 2 or 3 GB of RAM and 16 or 32 GB of storage, depending on market and carrier.

The device also supports microSDXC memory cards up to 2TB and features Cat. 6 LTE with Carrier Aggregation support. The Flex 2 now has a smaller 3,000 mAh battery than the first G Flex, but now supports fast charging for a 50% charge in under 40 minutes through Qualcomm’s Quick Charge technology built-in the Snapdragon 810.

The phone’s radios include Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, NFC, and Wi-Fi ac. Like the LG G3, the main camera features a 13-megapixel sensor with optical image stabilization and laser-driven autofocus that can also record 4K video. The front-facing camera captures 2.1-megapixel stills and 1080p HD video.

The Flex 2 runs Android 5.0 Lollipop with LG’s user interface on top and will be sold in silver and red. AT&T and Sprint have announced plans to carry the phone, but have not announced pricing or launch details. Sprint will carry an exclusive Volcano Red version while AT&T will carry the 32GB version.
