With the race to release the first Android enabled device, High Tech Computer (HTC) announced that one of the mobile phones they are currently designing to run Google’s mobile operating system will be called the “Dream.” It’s basic features will include a large touchscreen, a full QWERTY keypad that will either swivel out or slide out and measures 5-inches long and 3-inches wide. Any more details are being kept secret as an HTC representative by the name of Maggie Cheng stated, “We cannot comment on this product.”
This story comes about as competitor Samsung is also in advanced efforts to be the first handheld manufacturer on the market to capitalize on Google’s name. Both these companies are just two of the many partners under the Google founded Open Handset Alliance (OHA) who seek to build a better phone for consumers all over the world.
Forbes first broke news on the name four months ago after having the chance to view the proto-type device which was then under Google’s code word “Dream.” It was unknown whether or not HTC would begin manufacturing a commercial version of the Dream but if they did, HTC’s Chief Executive Peter Chou stated that they would have a tentative release date as early as the second half of 2008.
