Verizon is set to shortly release a long-awaited update for the Verizon Wireless XV6900, Verizon’s version of the HTC Touch.
First, the update will upgrade the device to Windows Mobile 6.1. It also adds EV-DO Rev A. Both of these updates have already been on all other versions of the HTC Touch in the United States, their absence has been one of the largest complaints about the device. Verizon is about to leapfrog the XV6900 with their version of the Touch Pro taking the top slot… and it will carry Windows Mobile 6.1. Verizon hopes to release this update before then, to ensure XV6900 owners aren’t angered further.
The update also adds VZ Navigator, expected from the earlier release for the XV6800. And, like the XV6800, Verizon will lock down the GPS to only work with VZ Navigator. Despite Verizon’s earlier claim that they will work with third-party Windows Mobile developers, no application has been certified for Verizon LBS since our reporting.
Hackers have already bypassed Verizon’s lockdown of GPS services on the XV6800, and it appears the same workaround functions on the XV6900.
Finally, the update adds Opera Mobile to the XV6900. The XV6900 was notably missing Opera Mobile, which the Sprint version shipped with pre-installed. This update will resolve that disparity.
And, we’re hosting the download, way ahead of Verizon’s release. To get the update, head on over to the HTC Vogue (XV6900) page of our Phone Encyclopedia, linked below:
Guys,
I have xv6900 wm6.1. I tried the registry change with Hex for address and everything but it’s not working. My PDEport was 8888 before and I changed it to 8889 as the link suggested. What is going on here? The navigation helped big time. I was lost in a very dangerous neighborhood once and it navigate me out in minutes :).
Hey, can anyone tell me if this upgrade changes the home screen on the phone? I really like the black/white/red contrast and i’d be upset if windows mobile 6.1 changed that. Thanks!
could anyone send me a link for the windows mobile 6.5 mod
I saw it on another xv6900 and the today screen was a spinning cube or something, Anyways it was awesome and would like to know, where to find that mod, thanks in advance, htc noob 🙂
Hi guys I posted on here a while ago and I was just notified by john’s post about the new winmo 6.5 leak. I’ve found other sites where the flash roms are and some of them say for verizon, sprint, blah blah blah. They do mention somewhere that the phone should be unlocked though. I am currently running the original flash rom from this page, I never updated to the “Real” winmo 6.1 and my phone runs absolutely fine. So, if I install the 6.5 update will my phone still work even though it isn’t “unlocked”. I bought it from the carrier.
Let me know what you guys find.
Anyways, here’s some links john, maybe you can find more info than I did.

try ’em. tell me what’s good 😀
Thanks Mike I was still unable to find the ROM I was looking for. It was kind of a 3-d type scrolling cube from the today screen.
worked similar to I-pod type OS. but when I looked into the properties of my buddies phone it said 6.5 I was like wtf.
that isn’t even out yet. Said a guy at the phone store did it for him. (lol) but I live several hundreds of miles away, so no upgrade for me. If anyone knows where to find this 3-d wm 6.5 please let me know by e-mail tnluv865@aol.com
thanks for all the responses, Sincerely John D. The Fourth Apostle
