Verizon’s data offerings to phone customers could be summed up in one word: confusing. First, you have the airtime usage that cannot be easily tracked, then the monthly fee for the home page portal (which is poorly named Mobile Web… even though it doesn’t provide that service), and on top of it is Get-It-Now…
Verizon is testing out a new way: offering exactly what Sprint is offering. The new package is titled Mobile Media, and is $15 a month, equal to PCS Vision on Sprint. The package includes unlimited data usage, the VZW Wap Gateway and Homepage, and access to Mobile Media, Verizon’s new streaming video service on 3GPP phones.
The pilot program is of 500 users, all who have been given LG VX8000 EV-DO handsets. If the trial proves successful, Mobile Media and the LG VX8000 will fully launch in January.
