Only a month after cutting the price on its Galaxy Nexus to $149.99 after spending months at the higher than average $299.99 post agreement price since its December launch, Verizon has cut the price on its flagship Galaxy Nexus smartphone to its lowest price ever at $99.99 after new 2 year agreement, reflecting its quickly declining value in the face of newer devices such as the Galaxy S III.
While the phone itself is still a highly popular device despite its older hardware specifications, it is in direct competition with the more powerful S III despite being first inline to receive the latest version of Android in Jelly Bean.
Speaking of Jelly Bean, Verizon and Samsung have yet to roll out the long awaited update to owners of the Galaxy Nexus and only after finally rolling out a necessary bugfix update last month in version 4.0.4 which fixed longstanding issues with the phone since launch.
Even with the price drop, both companies have yet to confirm when Jelly Bean will be rolled out for the phone after being relisted on the official internal AOSP support list. While the price would normally indicate that the phone is getting closer to being discontinued, Google has yet to confirm the successor to the Galaxy Nexus, as the current focus is on the Nexus 7 tablet, which is currently sold out on Google’s Play online store and resellers are also reporting higher than expected sales.
