Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, representatives for Verizon Wireless have confirmed that the carrier has decided not to launch the successor to the Samsung Galaxy S in the Galaxy S II, citing its own current lineup of flagship phones. which include two variants of the Samsung Galaxy S in the Fascinate and the Continuum.
Verizon’s Galaxy S II variant was to be called the Samsung Function and feature identical specifications to the  international version.  The following quote was provided to the Wall Street Journal following the confirmation: “We have an extensive portfolio that offers customers a great variety of devices, including the Samsung Droid Charge ”
The Samsung Galaxy SII features  a 4.27-inch display Super AMOLED plus display, dual-core 1GHz processor, GPS, Wi-Fi N and FM radio with RDS support. It also features an 8.0 megapixel camera with 1080p video capture, auto-focus and flash. The front facing camera is a 2.0 megapixel unit. DLNA for media sharing is also on board with a choice between 16GB or 32GB of onboard storage plus a microSD slot. The Galaxy S II will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread and includes a suite of Samsung specific software, such as TouchWiz, Social Hub, Media Hub, Readers Hub, and Game Hub.
Instead of launching the reference Galaxy SII, Verizon will launch a variant with similar specifications that will also support LTE data access, possibly to reduce costs and thereby reducing the typically deep subsidy offered for the Galaxy S line of devices. Samsung will announce the official US launch of the Galaxy S II next Monday during a press event in New York City, with representatives from Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T on hand to demonstrate their respective variants.
