Verizon Wireless has announced they intend to deploy Location Based Services (LBS) in the third quarter of this year. RCR News later confirmed this with Verizon PR rep Jeffrey Nelson (who we’ve had to explain to what Sprint TV was when he stated in a press release that VCast was “the first 3G multimedia service”), and stated that the delay was not because of any technological snags (such as in GPSOne) but in placing the priority on completing FCC e911 compliance.
This is planned to combat Sprint’s planned deployment of LBS services beyond 411 estimations on the Sprint network when Sprint and Nextel merge, also expected to be completed around the third quarter.
