USB Forum Launches New Standard

The USB Implementers Forum has announced a new protocol. The protocol,
called microUSB, is designed primarily for digital cameras, PDA’s, and
cellphones that promote form over function, and as a replacement for
the aging miniUSB standard. The protocol will also make use of the USB
On The Go standard, and a stainless steel connector for durability and
longevity purposes that is designed to last a claimed 10,000 insertion cycles
before the replacement of the device and/or cable is needed. No
information was given on what devices would launch with the new
specification.
