DVB-H Trial To Be Launched In NYC Next Week

Modeo, the company formerly known as Crown Castle Mobile Entertainment has announced they will be launching a “commercial trial” of their mobile television service starting next Monday in New York City. The trial is closed to a few hundred people that will be given HTC’s Overseer Pocket PC device that includes a built in DVB-H tuner to test the service throughout the city. What remains to be seen is the ability of the test to translate into carrier agreements as Qualcomm’s MediaFLO already has Verizon and Sprint as carriers, while Verizon is planning to be the first to launch MediaFLO nationwide in the first quarter.

An announcement is expected at CES regarding the trial launch and demo
of the service.
