We here at PhoneNews have been following the saga of litigation between
Nokia and Qualcomm which resembles an awful soap opera, with fallout…
further
fallout, attempts
at reconciliation, avoiding
the issues altogether, and more
fighting with today being
no exception. Qualcomm has filed another lawsuit against Nokia, this
one alleges that Nokia is violating Qualcomm patents on speech codecs
used in Nokia GSM/EDGE handsets and Qualcomm is seeking an injunction
against the sale of said GSM handsets and damages.
Nokia has
stated their intentions to “defend itself to ensure the rights of the
company are protected.” This follows another lawsuit in Europe last
month in the Netherlands and Germany Nokia filed against Qualcomm for
the forced exhaustion of WCDMA patents in those countries. To add
urgency to the matter, their current licensing agreement expires next
Monday with no resolution in sight.
