Following up on yesterday’s Moto X announcement, T-Mobile has clarified its stance on support for the smartphone. While it was expected that T-Mobile would support the phone in terms of hardware compatibility with its LTE network and sales support, the carrier has now confirmed that it will not carry the phone through its retail sales channels and will instead wait for the phone to launch through Motorola’s Moto Maker customization program for the Moto X.
“We do not plan to stock Moto X devices immediately in our stores, but are working closely with Motorola to make the Moto X a great experience for T-Mobile customers. Any news about distribution in our stores would come at a later date. The Moto X optimized for T-Mobile’s 4G LTE network will initially be available through Motorola’s channels.”
T-Mobile also has yet to confirm availability for the phone through its “no contract” Equipment Installment Plan service plan lineup or JUMP early upgrade program and would not immediately comment on such availability in the above statement to AllThingsD given by Motorola Mobility representative Mike Sievert. This is despite Motorola explicitly announcing availability across all four major carriers during its press event yesterday and regional carrier US Cellular confirming future availability shortly afterwards.
