As expected, T-Mobile has launched its highly anticipated Android smartphone lineup in the MyTouch 4G, Huawei IDEOS, Motorola Defy and the LG Optimus T.
The Optimus T features a 600 MHz processor, 3.2-inch touch screen display and a 3.2 megapixel camera with video capture. Featuring Voice Actions for Android pre-loaded, the LG Optimus T also allows commands through voice control, such as calling, texting, e-mailing and navigating to a specific destination. It will also be available in a burgundy or titanium finish. Pricing is set at $29.99 after new 2 year agreement.
The Comet features the complete Google Experience with technical specifications consisting of a 2.8-inch QVGA resolution capacitive touch display and a 528MHz processor, 3.2-megapixel camera with video recorder, 3.5mm headphone jack, FM radio and a microSD slot. Other specifications include HSDPA support, Wi-Fi N radio, GPS support, and Bluetooth. Pricing is set at $9.99 after new 2 year agreement and rebates.
The Defy features an M810F bodyshell with a scratch resistant 3.7 inch capacitive WVGA resolution display. DLNA support, 5.0 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash and the MOTOBLUR UI overlay round out the specifications along with CrystalTalkPLUS support, Bluetooth with stereo audio support, microSDHC expansion slot and Android 2.1. Pricing is set at $99.99 after new 2 year agreement and rebate.
The T-Mobile MyTouch 4G features Android 2.2 the Qualcomm MSM8255 Scorpion core running at 1GHz, a 3.8 inch WVGA resolution display, front-facing camera for video calls, microSDHC expansion slot with 8GB pre-installed memory card and a dual-core processor. Other specifications call for Wi-Fi radio, updated Genius button functionality and Qik access for video calls. Pricing is set at $249.99 after a new 2 year agreement before an additional $50 mail-in rebate, bringing the total to $199.99.
Not dual core processor, come on man!
Okay, here’s some clarification (or perhaps more confusion)…According to Qualcomm’s own website, the MSM8255 is NOT listed under the dual-core category, yet this is the description they give:
“The MSM8x55 chipset platform consists of the MSM8255â„¢ and MSM8655â„¢ and features a newly designed and optimized multimedia sub-system over previous Snapdragon generations.
…
* MSM8255 support for HSPA+ networks – up to14 Mbps downloads and 5.76 Mbps uploads
* MSM8655 support for HSPA+ networks – up to 14.4 Mbps downloads and 5.76 Mbps uploads – as well as CDMA2000 1X, 1xEV-DO Rel 0/A/B”
So it looks like these are just two built-in radios?
The MSM8x60 chipset on the other hand IS listed as third-gen dual core and described as follows:
“MSM8x60 chipset platform consists of the MSM8260â„¢ and MSM8660â„¢.
…
Scorpion asynchronous dual-CPU cores, up to 1.2GHz for faster response and processing ”
Soooo yeah….hopefully that clears things up? Or not? Does one have a CPU and GPU and the other actually have a real dual core CPU? Either way, if they could get away with calling the MSM8255 a dual-core or dual-processor platform I’m sure they would….it’d be a huge marketing buzz word….but they aren’t, so I think it’s safe to say this phone has a single core cpu.
