Palm today began offering a new backup method for Palm OS devices. Palm Backup, not to be confused with HotSync Backup, is a new application released today in beta.
The applications wirelessly backs up all Palm PIM data wirelessly to a secure server (presumably owned by Palm), and retains it for restoring at any time. There are several limitations to the program however. It will not backup non-Palm data, nor will it properly back up a Palm OS device that is interfacing with an Exchange server. Palm suggests users rely on their Exchange server as well as HotSync Backup.
In addition, Palm notes that while this beta is free, it intends to charge a periodical fee for the final product.
