Palm Kills Off Foleo, Focuses on Linux Platform

Palm has announced on their blog that they have discontinued the Foleo. Palm cites Foleo’s lack of a consistent strategy with Foleo running on Linux, and also beginning to deploy Linux-based smartphones.

At the same time, Palm announced their intention to move forward with Linux-based devices and continuing to develop Windows Mobile devices at the same time.

The announcement concludes with Palm’s intention to redesign Foleo (Foleo II as they refer to it), using the final Linux platform that future Palm devices will run on.

Palm’s Foleo was widely criticized for not providing significant advantage to customers, as its attempts to bridge laptop and PDA resulted in several compromises. The device internally allowed Palm’s developers to get their feet wet with their own Linux platform development, as Palm had decided to abandon the Access Linux Platform.
