Motorola has issued a new update for their Motorola Software Update utility. Version 01.11.21 has no noticeable changes, but does add a new installer.
The installer runs an additional check to make sure a key Windows Vista hotfix was installed. The hotfix remedies issues with USB support, and low-level USB interaction necessary for Motorola to update the software in your phone.
Unfortunately, the installer doesn’t realize that Windows Vista SP1 doesn’t need this update. And, as such, the installer refuses to install… even on Vista SP1 systems that already have an older version of Motorola Software Update working properly.
Motorola has yet to acknowledge the issue with Motorola Software Update. This comes in the same week that Motorola removed all iDEN updates from their web site.
so what can we do to make it work?
Nothing right now. MSU will not run unless it is using the latest version. The update refuses to install.
All you can do is check daily to see if MSU downloads an update greater than 01.11.21.
Of course, we’ll follow-up when that happens, so you don’t need to do that check. We’ll let you know when the problem is fixed.
I already tried to install it on a windows-xp based computer then move the program files folder to my vista computer. The problem is that it wants to update and it opens up the hotfix window and closes the installation screen. So when is this update expected to come out?
Also, what could I use instead of MSU?
You could use Motorola’s PST, combined with the firmware files on our Phone Encyclopedia. However, the application is closed… we can’t help you get a copy of it.
You are best off waiting for Motorola to fix the issue.
MSU was updated to 01.11.22 today. This fixes the issue.
