Sony Mobile Communications, the newly integrated mobile division following the buyout and dissolution of the Sony Ericsson venture held its own press event during MWC to announce two additional models to its revitalized Xperia smartphone lineup in the Xperia P and U Android smartphones both aimed at the mid-range and low-end of the market.
Starting with the Xperia P It features a 4.0-inch Sony-branded “Reality Display” with Sony’s BRAVIA Engine and Sony’s new WhiteMagic display technology for a claimed ultra-bright and power efficient display along with a 1GHz dual-core processor, 16GB of internal storage, 8.0 megapixel camera with HD video recording, and NFC support for mobile banking and wallet services while the Xperia U is a lower-end phone with a smaller 3.5-inch version of the branded Reality Display with the same BRAVIA Engine tech, 1GHz dual-core processor, and 5.0 megapixel camera with HD video recording while also featuring “xLoud” stereo and 3D sound processing.
Both phones will initially launch with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but will be updated to Android 4.0 during the second quarter of the year. Pricing and availability outside of Europe has yet to be disclosed.

Xperia U Key Features:

- 1 GHz dual-core processor for super fast performance.
- 5MP camera with unique fast capture, HD recording and Sony technology to capture 2D and 3D panoramic images.
- Crisp and loud listening with xLoud and 3D surround sound audio technology.
- Available in a choice of white or black, with pink and yellow exchangeable caps for the base of the smartphone in the box.
- Launches on Android platform 2.3 (Gingerbread), upgrade to Android platform 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) during the second quarter of 2012.
