In a press release, Motorola has annonced that it has joined the LTE/System Architecture Evolution (SAE) Trial Initiative (LSTI).
The purpose of the group and initiative is to gather the varied experience of individual companies involved and combine efforts in order to speed up development and deployment of LTE equipment and networks. The wireless equipment manufacturer has also announced that it has been selected by both Verizon Wireless and Vodafone to conduct field trials of LTE along with the aforementioned companies during the year.
Verizon Wireless and Vodafone jointly announced the selection of LTE as their 4G technology of choice last year in order to pursue the goal of a compatible network between both carriers by 2014. LTE as a network standard is not expected to be commercially deployed until sometime in 2010.
