Likely due to the unexpected demand for the phone in the US, Motorola has begun direct sales of the Moto G ahead of the previously announced January launch date. Motorola is selling both Global and US GSM single SIM versions of the phone on its website starting at $179.99 for the 8GB version and $199.99 for the 16GB version. The previously announced CDMA version will launch in January as scheduled along with the promised KitKat update. The Global GSM version features support for North American 3G bands (850/1900), while the US GSM version features support for AWS 3G networks for full T-Mobile support.
As previously reported, the Moto G features the following specifications in a 4.5 inch display at 720p with a pixel density of 329 ppi, a quad-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB of RAM and has a 2,070mAh battery, a 5.0 megapixel rear camera and 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.
The device will ship with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and Motorola is guaranteeing an update to Android 4.4 KitKat, set for early January. Unlike the Moto X however, the Moto G features removable backplates, which can be interchanged for slight customization and the phone lacks LTE support, making do with HSPA+21 or EVDO Rev. A.
