In a press release, Motorola has announced that it has selected the former chairman and CEO of AT&T, David Dorman as its replacement for outgoing Chairman and former Mobile Devices division CEO Ed Zander, who will retire at the May 5th shareholder meeting.
David Dorman previously joined Motorola’s Board of Directors in 2006 following a stint as AT&T president in 2000, as well as functioning as both Chairman and CEO from 2002 to November of 2005 following other former company presidencies at Pacific Bell in 1994 up until the purchase by SBC Communications in 1997, and CEO of the global entertainment venture with British Telecommunications known as Concert from 1999 to 2000.
The move is not expected to affect day to day upper management in any way, and is being seen as a way to improve the lagging fortunes of the Mobile Devices division of the company which will be publicly traded in the future and operate as a separate company under the Motorola brand.
