Microsoft Confirms New Lumia Flagship in Qualcomm Snapdragon Chipset PR

By Humberto Saabedra on February 2, 2015

Microsoft LogoIn an attempt to head off persistent rumors that Samsung will not feature Qualcomm’s latest chipset in its forthcoming Galaxy flagships and save face, Qualcomm has issued PR extolling the advantages of its yet to be released Snapdragon 810 chipset, which is expected to be released in the latest flagship smartphones from its partners this year, which now include Microsoft. The conglomerate had previously refused to confirm plans to release a flagship-level Lumia device until the most recent statements made during the Windows 10 press event held recently. With Qualcomm’s PR released this morning, the unannounced Lumia flagship phone is all but confirmed:

We look forward to continuing this relationship to deliver best in class Lumia smartphones, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 processors, and offer an unprecedented combination of processing power, rich multimedia, high-performance graphics and wireless connectivity for our customers.

The above statement was given by current vice-president of high-end Microsoft Devices in Juha Kokkonen. Microsoft’s current Lumia lineup is focused on entry-level and mid-range devices, with the Lumia 830 being the highest-specification Lumia device in the current lineup now that the flagship 920 series is discontinued and the successor to the 1020 PureView was quietly cancelled last year. With the new Lumia flagship under development, the phone would be released around the launch of Windows 10 for Mobile later this year as Windows Phone and its successor operating system are optimized to work exclusively on Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets.
