Following in Samsung’s lead as it is known to do, LG has announced its own take on the curved smartphone idea in the currently Korea-exclusive LG G Flex Android smartphone. Unlike Samsung’s Galaxy Round, the G Flex is curved along the horizontal axis rather than the vertical, making the phone curve similarly to a banana when viewed in profile. LG mentions that this is meant to improve handling against the face for phone calls.
The phone features a 6-inch, 720p curved Plastic OLED display powered by a Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB of RAM with a 13-megapixel camera housed above the two rear control button layout from the G2 with a new curved battery design, though it does not feature a microSD slot. The English press release also mentions that the phone features a self-healing coating that can repair hairline scratches on the rear of the phone to keep the phone looking new longer. LG says they are repaired “within minutes.” The phone will be launched next month with no immediate word on a US release.
