Verizon Wireless today announced their 2nd Quarter customer growth of 1.8 million new customers. Bringing VZW up to a total of 54.8 million customers. While this is not unusual for VZW, considering this is the 8th consecutive Quarter with more than 1.5 million added customers. This statement in the press release leads me to believe that VZW is trying a little too hard to take over the #1 spot again…
“Verizon Wireless believes, based on publicly available information, that it has the most retail customers of any wireless carrier, with 52.6 million retail customers of its total 54.8 million customers.”
The bad news for VZW is that Cingular also added a few customers in the 2nd Quarter. To the tune of 1.5 million net adds. Bringing Cingular’s customer totals up to 57.3 million.
Now in my book 57.3 million is a little more than 54.8 million, no matter how you look at it. It looks like the wireless world may be going into the “spin cycle” when it comes to who’s #1. No VZW financial details were disclosed for the Quarter.
