Google has failed to have a suit thrown out which was brought against it by lead plaintiff and one-time Google Wallet user Alice Svenson of Illinois nearly 18 months ago, who claims in her suit against the search giant that the company allowed third-party developers access to the sensitive personal data needed for full usage of the Wallet service such as street addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses along with other personal data.
Google ended the access to the data once the lawsuit was initially filed and served, but lead plaintiff Svenson is currently seeking class-action status for her suit under the reasoning that the data collection left Wallet users at a higher risk for identity theft along with $1,000 per violation, and other punitive damages. Google has not commented on the refusal to dismiss the suit.
