Net neutrality, this is a very hot topic with any ISP regardless if your screen is 2″ or 20″. But now a Delegate in the state of Maryland is tired of waiting on the Federal Government to set some rules. Delegate Herman Taylor has introduced House Bill 1069 with which is very similar to the concessions that AT&T made to persuade the FCC to sign off on it’s merger with Bellsouth.
“A BROADBAND PROVIDER THAT OFFERS BROADBAND
INTERNET SERVICE TO THE PUBLIC SHOULD NOT PROVIDE OR SELL TO
INTERNET CONTENT, APPLICATION, OR SERVICE PROVIDERS, INCLUDING ANY
AFFILIATE OF A BROADBAND SERVICE COMPANY, ANY SERVICE THAT PROVIDES,
DEGRADES, OR GIVES PRIORITY TO ANY PACKET SOURCE OVER THAT
COMPANY’S BROADBAND INTERNET ACCESS SERVICE BASED ON ITS SOURCE,
OWNERSHIP, OR DESTINATION”
Delegate Taylor has some support in his quest for Net Neutrality also. It appears roughly 20 or so colleagues have signed on as co-sponsors. House Bill 1069 would only affect those ISPs in Maryland.
