During CES, ZTE took the wraps off of its newest Android flagship in the Grand S. The Grand S features what the manufacturer is now claiming as the thinnest chassis with a 5-inch 1080p display at 6.9mm thin. The rest of the phone’s specifications squarely position it in the high-end, with 2GB of onboard RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 13 megapixel camera, 16GB of storage and LTE support, though ZTE has yet to release more detailed specifications.
With ZTE’s entry into the superphone segment, this year may be the year that every manufacturer decides to create one flagship model that represents each manufacturer’s definition of the high-end model, especially as the rest of the industry struggles to compete with Samsung and Apple. The Grand S is currently slated for release in China later this quarter while a US release has yet to be slated.
With the Grand S especially, ZTE is sending a signal to everyone that it is more than willing to compete on the same level as its main competitors, though it must be able to not only convince carriers and potential customers that it is no longer known just for cheap handsets.
