HTC has lost another patent case against Nokia in Germany making it the fourth case it has lost against the Finnish company in 2 months.
HTC previously lost another case against Nokia late last year involving its implementation of the Android Beam NFC data transfer protocol which led to another import ban of HTC products as the verdict. This latest victory for Nokia centers around a non-standards essential patent, EP1579613 which involves backward compatibility of smartphones with older networks.
As expected, HTC has stated that the company is investigating the necessary modifications to its devices to avoid the latest import ban, citing the patent on the technology as being “redundant” and is working on another appeal while claiming that this will only result in “minimal disruption” to its product shipments to Europe.
