Noooooooooooooooooo! Sprint, what have you done??

Alltel should jump on it. Its high time they got some new phones.

Considering Alltel is part of Verizon, and Google isn’t making the CDMA Nexus One, I don’t see that happening.

Jim, Alltel is NOT part of Verizon. Alltel is still alive and kicking with a much smaller footprint.

Yes, it is part of Verizon. It is still actively being sold in 22 rural markets, but is owned by Verizon Wireless.

My point was, Google made the Nexus One for Verizon. Sprint, Alltel, and the regionals were all afterthoughts. Without the popularity of Verizon, there isn’t enough of a market for it to make sense for Google.

Same thing happened with the Sony Ericsson T608. Sprint wanted to launch the phone, but when Verizon killed its variant (the T606), SE Europe killed off the whole division.

This situation is a bit different, but it shows the continued problem with CDMA. Platforms like Symbian and Android still have a “go big or go home” stance across both companies. Those that are familiar with CDMA (Kyocera, HTC, Samsung) know how to market these devices on single-carrier launches.

The alltel stores that are left standing are NOT part of Verizon. Verizon has already changed the names of the stores it stayed with. I worked for Verizon during the aquistion period and we had training in which stores where going to be our customers. The alltel stores that are left are on their own and have NOTHING to do with Verizon. It is actually against the contract of purchase to even talk to those customers or try to coax them over to verizon.

I think nexxus one got nixed because it doesn’t have htc sense and maybe google is letting cell companies come out with their own unique phone. Hey, maybe google is getting ready to release the nexxus 2. Who knows!

Alltel is no longer part of Verizon. Alltel is now Allied Wireless (subsidiary of ATN), They are keeping the Alltel name. So no, Alltel is no longer affiliated with Verizon in any way shape or form.

I will be so happy when Alltel gets in new phones. Now that the deal is done, I am hoping to see some sort of android phone soon. (as well as others)
