Following up on Thursday’s UK launch of the Google Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Google has quietly modified the tech specs page for the forthcoming Verizon version of the phone to eliminate any mention of the previously confirmed 32GB version of the flagship Android Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone, with the page now only making mention of the 16GB version as seen below.
The quiet deletion of the 32GB version is a cause for concern, as the phone was expected to be available in both versions to accommodate different storage needs for customers and was initially announced during the launch of the phone last month.
As the phone does not include an additional microSD slot for additional storage, many are lamenting the deletion of the 32GB version, citing the 16GB version as too limiting for the price Verizon is asking for the phone post-agreement, compared to other options sold in the same line up, which include a microSD slot for additional storage.
REALLY……..
if you check out this from Samsung Canada you will notice it states 16gb user and expandable 32 gb micro sd, I called samasung canada and they siad if that is what the webpage states, it is true, because their web page does not lie. Seriously that is what John from Samsung Canada told me
http://www.samsung.com/ca/consumer/mobile/mobile-phones/smartphones/GT-I9250TSMBMC/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=specification
Unbelievable! First they jerk their customers around by playing marketing games with the release date, and now this. Because we want to make sure we can peddel those POS Razors and Bionics. Wouldn’t want customers to be able to choose, because noone would by the Motorola’s and we cant have that.
Now it seems for some inexplicable reason we need to play the same game with 16gb/32gb. Make sure we sell the ones noone will buy if they actually had a choice. Screw Verizon! I just decided they can take their LTE and shove it where the sun doesn’t shine. I’m switching to T-Mobile!
@Kevin:
Samsung Canada’s page is incorrect, as the Galaxy Nexus does not feature a separate microSD slot. The exclusion of the slot was a deliberate decision made by both companies. Google deliberately designed the OS to treat internal storage as a continuous block of storage identical to the storage implementation on Windows Phone 7.
While they’ve stated that the exclusion makes things easier for consumers, the decision to eliminate the slot has more to do with the increasingly dim view that Google is taking against homebrew and ROM developers.
I know that, you know that, we all know that, except for Samsung Canada, again yesterday I called them to tell them that their website was wrong. But they still insist that if its on their website it has to be true. I even asked to escilate the call. When I spoke with the supervisor I was still told that if the website says it it’s true. Anyways when I go to finaly buy my GN I will indeed take a printed version of the webpage with me.
