Google has launched a new free service for iPhone users that want to have automatic synchronization of contact and calendar information without depending on MobileMe. Google Sync is a Microsoft Exchange based service that allows people to synchronize contact information from GMail and Google Calendar with the same real-time updates as mobileme without the fees.
Currently, the service only supports Contacts and Calendar sync, with other features such as email coming down the line and requires a backup of all contact information as the first-time setup deletes all contacts and calendar information stored on the device.
The service is also available for the BlackBerry, Nokia Series 40 and Series 60, Sony Ericsson, and Windows Mobile.
