According to a report on PCMag, Google has had their application for the upcoming 700 Mhz AWS auction in January approved while established carriers AT&T, Alltel, and Verizon have had their applications rejected and returned for revisions due with an upfront payment by January 4th.
Google will be bidding under the name Google Airwaves Inc. once the auction starts on January 24th with the upper end of the spectrum up for sale with the requirement that the owner of the 22Mhz C block open access to any device.
The only other companies with approved applications at this point are two ventures by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen bidding under the names Vulcan Spectrum LLC and Bend Cable Communications LLC.
Other companies with rejected and returned applications include Qualcomm, Cox Wireless, and Frontline who are registering under the name LicenceCo LLC in order to bid on enough spectrum to build a wireless network for first responders.
