That’s right, we’re bringing back the Free Prepaid Phone Challenge. After AT&T ran out of free prepaid phones, we looked high and low for something even better. And, we’ve brought the free prepaid phone challenge back with Verizon Wireless.
This time around, we’ve picked an even better phone, the Motorola W385. It’s a successor to the ultra-popular Motorola KRZR flip phone, and features both Bluetooth and a VGA camera. This is a great spare phone for drivers, especially in states that require using a Bluetooth headset while driving.
The process is similar to our last version of the challenge, but the purchase price is a little higher. Verizon will sell you the phone for $19.99. We’ll give you $10 cash back (just by following the steps in the link below), and then Verizon will match that with a $10 service credit when you activate the phone. That brings the net cost of the phone to absolutely free.
And remember, not only will you be getting a free prepaid phone. Not only will you be supporting PhoneNews.com, but, if we ship 10,000 free prepaid phones, we’ll go ad-free for all of 2009. We don’t like ads either, and you asked for a way to help us make them go away… we’re delivering with the Free Prepaid Phone Challenge.
Ready to get started? Just click the link below for the details, and how to get your free prepaid phone.

I like the phone you all giving away for free.
Verizon’s prepaid seems to be the most expensive of any I’ve seen.
Its not really free. They charge $25 activation fee. This is not a good deal unless theres a way to avoid activation fee.
Verizon will be rolling out a flat-rate, cheaper prepaid price point, via their Basic plan. It’s due out next month, and $.25/minute (similar to the AT&T GoPhone basic plan).
The good news there is that you can switch to that when it comes out next month, simply by calling customer service.
As to the $25 activation fee, yes, Verizon does charge an activation fee on prepaid plans. The phone itself is still free, and only free from PhoneNews.com. If you know anywhere else you can get a Verizon prepaid phone for free, feel free to share it.
Even if you want to factor in the activation fee, please show me where you can get a Bluetooth-enabled, flip camera phone for under $25 shipped, without contract? I await your reply, as we’d love to make it even cheaper with cashback.
P.S. You can also activate this phone on PagePlus Cellular for even cheaper rates. We’ll still make the phone for free, and you can use up the $10 Verizon service credit before switching over. However, I think most people will find Verizon InPulse prepaid great considering the new changes to it.
Chris, that $0.25 per minute, no daily charge calling plan by Verizon is already available. It’s been so for almost two weeks now.
Yes, but it isn’t fully rolled out yet. For example, it isn’t available online. You can get it now, but we’ve been asked by Verizon to not promote it with this offer (at least, until it fully launches).
That said, once you get the phone, you can just call *611 to change over to it. We just confirmed it is now in all markets.
And of course, switching to the Basic, flat-rate plan will not affect getting the cash back or Verizon’s matching service credit.
The phone doesnt come out to be under $25 after you factor in the $25 activation fee and the $10 from verizon is credit not cash so you really can’t factor that into the price. It still is a good deal though since the phone on ebay is selling for over $30 used. Im ordering mine this week.
problem is…verizon is claiming a “technical problem” with the phone…(per email from verizon) ordered athis from verizon mid feb…still haven’t received it…they want me to order a different (and much higher price) phone…I only use a cell phone 2x month max, and don’t text…so prepaid is a better deal for me…after being a verizon customer on a regular plan for over 3 years
