Samsung has announced its own version of Apple’s “Continuity” activity transfer functionality on iOS and OS X, which is called “Flow” and is being developed in tandem with the Samsung Research Think Tank developer group. The functionality, which is available in a beta app in the Play Store, currently allows selected Samsung devices to either defer applications to other devices or transfer activities between devices.
With the activity transfer functionality, users can work on a particular activity and then move it to another device and pick up right where they left off. The deferred activity feature lets people defer an incoming activity request on one device if it’s not the right device for that particular task. They can then pick up the activity on another compatible device they prefer when ready to continue.
According to Samsung, Flow supports existing applications through Android’s built-in share mechanisms and Samsung also expects to add more features to Flow in the future, including notifications, mirroring, and app division. Flow is currently limited to the Galaxy S5, S6, and S6 Edge, the Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge along with the Galaxy Tab S.
