During CTIA, Verizon has announced and confirmed the debut of its own branded application store for its lineup of handsets and smartphones. The first devices to support the new app store will be the BlackBerry Storm and Storm2, with more devices being supported in the future.
This announcement follows Verizon’s initial announcement made last summer regarding support for Java Mobile Edition and subsequent confirmation of initial deployment on the BlackBerry lineup of devices available on the carrier.
Verizon representatives also confirmed that its app store will not take precedence over other distribution channels such as RIM’s App World or the Android Marketplace and instead will provide another avenue of distribution for developers to use alongside the aforementioned. The Verizon App Store will also support carrier billing.
