Updated with a couple of pictures…
8:56 AM Microsoft, Palm, and Verizon are clearly being showcased side-by-side on the PR… photos to come shortly.
9:00 AM And, the three are now demanding media silence. Enjoy the lack of coverage by their demand.
10:00 AM Here are the highlights:
No firm specifications beyond what have been reported… Intel processor, 240×240 display, Windows Mobile 5.0 Phone Edition. The 700w title was not confirmed.
Beyond that, it is exclusive to Verizon until Q2 2005, and after that Palm expects future Windows Mobile Treo offerings.
And… if you really want a personal up-and-close of your beloved editor-in-chief (scratchy post-flu voice included), tune in at noon to the webcast. I’ll post the question here to save the time for most…
Me: Christopher Price, PCS Intel. This question is for Bill, we’re seeing Windows Mobile 5.0 Phone Edition running on much smaller devices with 240×240 pixel displays… first from HP, now with the Treo. How do you see this as conflicting with Windows Mobile for Smartphone and larger smartphone devices such as the Motorola Q.
Bill Gates: (paraphrazing due to media blackout) We really don’t see it as a conflict, and that’s why we’re calling it the Windows Mobile 5.0 platform without Phone Edition or Smartphone titles. It’s really one platform with some devices relying on stylus-based computing, and others with direct keypad input.. we really see it as a way to offer more devices with a broader range.
