Regional carrier Cricket has quietly launched the UTStarcom CDM-7126 clamshell phone.
The phone is the first CDMA device in the US to support the 1700 Mhz frequency allocated to winners of the 2006 AWS spectrum auction for high speed data services.
The phone is currently only available to Cricket customers in Tulsa, Oklahoma with planned availability in all Cricket markets, and features an external display with indicators for calls, messages, and alerts, Bluetooth, voice recognition, and 1xRTT data access..
Two more cities will be added which will support both CDMA and the new AWS band which are Las Vegas and Oklahoma City during the year with no launch dates known at this time.
This phone is great. My room; also known as the ‘death zone’ of dead zones has always left me with a connection. Clear…and uninterrupted.
