In lockstep with Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile, AT&T will now require any purchase of a smart device under a new agreement to be bundled with a smartphone data plan beginning on September 6th in a statement released to the press today.
AT&T is justifying the move by stating that smartphone users use a greater quantity of data and related services and is mandating data bundles for customer peace of mind when using such services. Current customers will be grandfathered under their current agreement while the changes will apply to new customers, with data plans starting at $30 per month on top of voice plan charges.
It’s about time…
