On top of killing prepaid unlimited data access for regular customers, AT&T has also decided to eliminate unlimited data access for GoPhone Pick Your Plan users as seen in the screenshot below.

The following text message also sent to customers confirms the elimination of both GoPhone Pay As You Go Unlimited Data and Pick Your Plan Unlimited Data:Â “AT&T Free Msg: Unlimited MEdiaNet packages will no longer be available as of 11/12. 1MB and 5MB MEdiaNet packages still available. Call 611 for details.”
When current and new customers call the IVR via 611, the current packages will still be available for purchase, but this confirms the long rumored elimination of both unlimited data packages, and was not in fact limited to Pay As You Go prepaid data access, as was first noted by AT&T.
With this change, AT&T has severely hampered, if not completely eliminated their once advantageous position in the eyes of savvy and cost-conscious users, all the while going so far as claiming abuse by tethering as the sole cause for the elimination of the options.
This claim does not take into account the lack of foresight demonstrated and infrastructure expenditure required for such an offering, as well as the increasing rate of litigation due to poor quality of data services.
Wow att is dropping the ball, people are going to be leaving in droves
what a horrible company
This is the result of no competition. As far as I know, AT&T was the only company to offer unlimited data on prepaid plans, right?
We need Sprint or Verizon to step up and offer it, and T-Mobile to offer it once they launch a 3G network (T-Mobile does offer unlimited prepaid data and messaging on the prepaid Sidekick plan, but they don’t have 3G).
Unfortunately, nobody is forcing AT&T to offer it right now.
There is no way that the others will fill in. None of the carriers want too much data. They cannot afford it apparently.
[…] my screenshot was taken from the Pick Your Plan screen. Well, as if it was an omen, AT&T has cancelled the $20 unlimited data plan for Pick Your Plan subscribers. That’s just no […]
[…] AT&T is going to eliminate Unlimited Data plans for it’s prepaid “GoPhones”. I can see that for some people (those who feel that prepaid is a good option) this is bad news, but that said AT&T has some great plans (in my opinion) and they have a great network, if they feel that they need to shunt some of these people who are (probably) only using the AT&T system for the high speed internet into a different plan (e.g. a monthly plan) than that’s fine. What I don’t like is the fact that had I not been having technical issues with my Motorola flip phone, I would not have know that my it would quit working. And wouldn’t you know that the warranty is only for 1 year. The tech I spoke with says that the life expectancy of the phone is only 2 years! I never saw anything in the guide nor the warranty about that. I paid $80.00 for the darned thing! Now I have to go buy another one???? What a crock!
wow thats really stupid
some one should start a petition
I have a go phone and I dont know if its just me or not but the service sucks and the plan is wack!! My minutes go really fast and , I dont even talk that much!! And i’ve heard other people say the same thing basically i’m paying a whole lot for a whole lot of nothing!!
