Another Cell Phone Bill of Rights?

On Wednesday Michigan Senate Democrats introduced a bill that would provide wireless consumers in Michigan some protections. The bill would require wireless carriers to provide accurate coverage maps, limit the ETF to $20.00 per contract and give consumers a minimum of 20 days for their trial period. The legislation would also give the Michigan Public Service Commission oversight of carriers billing practices, marketing practices and give consumers a way to resolve disputes with their carriers. California did have a similar law in place for a short time until the CPUC gave in to pressure from the wireless industry. Apparently some of the smaller carriers threatened to pull out of California all together. Claiming the new laws to too difficult to comply with in the time frame allowed. The legislation introduced in Michigan will most likely encounter the same level of resistance.
