Alltel within the past 48 hours has begun to roll out Sprint data roaming. Currently limited to data cards, PRL 40007 marks a dramatic shift in roaming. Specifically, Alltel will place a customer on Sprint EV-DO before placing them on Alltel 1xRTT. This means that a customer will always be able to take advantage of EV-DO service when available, regardless of if it is on a Sprint tower or an Alltel tower.
While there is no handset update yet available, some customers have been successful in loading the aircard PRL onto their phones. Voice and data appear to work properly when performing this manual update.
