HTC has taken to the micro blog service Twitter to announce that it will not be offering a version of the hotly anticipated Touch HD now on sale in France and Germany.
No further details were given on why the manufacturer has decided not to offer the device in North America, but speculation points to its focus on the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro models in the US leading to a potential cannibalization of sales if a third Touch series device were to be offered soon after those devices have had little time on the market. Â Other rumors reach further and state that HTC may be thinking about an Android version of the Touch HD.
Update: HTC has released a statement to the press that states surprise at the level of demand for the device and clarifies the reason for the lack of a US 3G version, stating that the engineering time needed for a US 3G version would render the device obsolete by the time it would theoretically launch here, and that the company has different design goals for the US market.
I think the obvious reason it won’t be for sale is because AT&T will be getting an AT&T branded version…
This is totally driving me crazy, I’ve been waiting for a device like the HD to buy in Christmas and now I have to commit for 2 more years with other carrier and with a no so cool device, by the time HTC releases another “cool” device, there will be a lot more choices and maybe way cooler devices, but til then my dream of the HTC HD have died.
I vote trickery, this will come to the U.S. they just don’t want to announce it because it will eat away at sales of the Diamond and Pro with people waiting for it to show up
There have been a couple people claiming to be in the know on other forums who said the Touch Pro is not the the next Kaiser/Tilt, but there is a new device with a tilting screen set to replace the Kaiser/Tilt.
Perhaps it’s some some sort of Touch Pro HD with a tilting screen?
In any case, you can bet HTC will release the Touch HD in the USA. It might have a different name with different branding, but it will make it here.
