Windows Mobile enthusiast website WMExperts is repoting the arrival of a package from HTC with a new battery from manufacturer Celexpert meant to replace the standard Dynapack manufactured battery. Enclosed with the new cell was the following letter with this statement:
T-Mobile and HTC are providing a replacement for the T-Mobile Wing battery made by Dynapack at no charge to you due to rare occurrences of the battery overheating.
Neither T-Mobile USA nor HTC have posted bulletins on their respective support websites regarding this issue at this time, and is likely a silent recall meant to quietly reassure customers without inciting panic.
With the nature of this being a silent recall, we are calling on any customers with HTC Wing devices to comment and share any experiences with receiving new batteries.
A new battery and a note arrived today. 100% unexpected and I had been on the phone with them recently about another issue with the phone. Seemed very odd to suddenly see a new battery.
This doesn’t make me feel they are proactive. It seems sneaky somehow.

Well… I’m a little disturbed by this..
On Tuesday (4/29) the weirdest thing happened. I usually charge my phone by syncing it to my laptop. I noticed my phone wasn’t on, I figured I probably did something wrong. As I attempting to charge it to the wall unit, and turn it on, it still didn’t work.
I called T-mobile, the rep sent me a replacement phone. While I was waiting for my replacement phone I managed to get my phone to turn on and charge up. The phone got extremely hot and after charging it for 2 hours it got to 100% charge but in 20 minutes it was completely dead again. I figured it was the battery and called back the rep told me 9 times out of 10 it’s the phone. I even went to 2 stores to see if I could get a battery and they told me the same thign.
I got the replacement phone…. same thing. I called back and the rep told me my battery was out of warranty and that I would need to purchase another one. I went to a T-mobile service provider, since the stores doesn’t carry batteries. They told me that T-mobile had sent everyone with a Wing a new battery because there is a recall.
I was pissed… I literally spoke to 3 – 4 representatives until I found this out! No one informed me or sent me anything. I raised hell and my new battery is on its way. But I am very upset at the fact that the reps and the customer service people weren’t educated about this.
I WOULD BE EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS ABOUT RETURNING YOUR BATTERY PACK. I ALSO RECEIVED THE SAME THING TODAY, BUT I QUICKLY FOUND WAY TOO MANY ERRORS IN GRAMMAR AND SPELLING, POOR AND HASTY PREPARATION OF THE ENCLOSED FLYER (ALMOST OF A “CUT AND PASTE” QUALITY, FALSE ADDRESS INFORMATION (NOT ONLY IS “CORPORATE” SPELLED WRONG ON MY MERCH RTN LABEL, BUT THE NUMBER 5950 CORPORATE DRIVE ACCORDING TO A SEARCH I DID ON USPS WEBSITE ISN’T AN OFFICIAL ADDRESS. THE USPS WEBSITE ONLY SHOWS CORPORATE DRIVE, IN STAFFORD, TX, AS HAVING THE ADDRESS NUMBERS 10050 THROUGH 10799. ALSO, THE CORRECT SPELLING OF BLUE BONNETT (ALSO ACCORDING TO USPS) IS WITH ONLY ONE “T” AND IT’S ALL ONE WORD.
NOW SOMEONE TELL ME HOW A HUGE COMPANY LIKE TMOBILE COULD BE THIS SLOPPY? ANYONE WHO IS AT ALL FAMILIAR WITH HOW TO WORD A MAILER, LETTER, ANNOUNCEMENT OR NOTICE FOR A LARGE COMPANY LIKE TMOBILE, WOULD SEE THAT THE FLYER IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING WORDED PROFESSIONALLY. THERE ARE SPELLING ERRORS, FAILURE TO USE PROPER CAPITALIZATION – THEY EVEN FAILED TO PROPERLY CAPITALIZE DYNAPACK’S NAME! OTHER THAN SMALL BLOG SITES LIKE THIS ONE, I COULD FIND NO OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT THIS BATTERY “REPLACEMENT.” I CONTACTED TMOBILE – THEY KNEW NOTHING OF IT. I CALLED HTC – THEY KNEW NOTHING OF IT. I SEARCHED THE DYNAPACK AND CELXPERT WEBSITES FOR POSTS ON THIS “EXCHANGE” AND FOUND NOTHING. I EVEN SEARCHED THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT’S RECALL LIST – AND I FOUND NOTHING. PARDON ME, BUT IF THESE BATTERIES HAD THE POTENTIAL TO OVERHEAT – I COULD BE WRONG, BUT I IMAGINE THEY WOULD BE ON THE FED GOVT RECALL LIST.
FURTHERMORE, ACCORDING TO USPS, WHEN I CALLED THEM ABOUT THE PERMIT NO. LISTED ON THE MERCH RETURN LABEL, THEY VERIFIED THAT IT BELONGS TO TMOBILE – BUT ACCORDING TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE USPS AS TO WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE WRITTEN ON THE LABEL, THE LABEL SAYS IT BELONGS TO HTC (SHOWN JUST BELOW THE PERMIT NO.) – AND NOT TMOBILE. ???
I COULD KEEP POINTING OUT WHAT I’VE FOUND OUT THAT MAKES MAKES THIS APPEAR TO ME, TO BE A POSSIBLE SCAM, BUT I AM PROBABLY JUST CHASING THE “MYSTERIOUS MAN ON THE GRASSY KNOLL.”
ANYWHOOZ, I WOULD JUST BE CAREFUL AND WAIT FOR A FORMAL NOTICE OR ANNOUNCEMENT CONCERNING THIS ISSUE BEFORE EXCHANGING ANY BATTERY AT ALL…I CAN SEE ABSOLUTELY NO REASON WHY TMOBILE WOULD BE “SECRETIVE” ABOUT THIS ISSUE. WHAT WOULD KEEPING THIS SUCH A HUSH HUSH ISSUE ACCOMPLISH??? NOT A DARN THING.
I work for T-Mobile Handset Tech, not PDA tech but I have a Wing. I did read something that came out telling us that there will be batteries sent out to customer who have had the wing before a certain date. New ones already have the new battery. I checked and I have one on order for myself automatically and it is coming from T-Mobile. I can not say why the letter and label is misspelled but this is something that came from HTC as a needed recall.
