Google Play Services 4.2 is now being pushed out to many Android devices worldwide. The latest version of Play Services includes the Google Cast SDK, which Google just released to app developers for including Chromecast support in Android and iOS apps. Those devices that have been updated to Play Service 4.2 will now be compatible with apps that add and feature support for Google Cast/Chromecast. Such support is already available from a number of Android and iOS apps and lets owners push content from their phone or tablet to a Chromecast dongle attached to their TV. Google is also updating its Cast Chrome extension with the updated SDK support today.
Google is banking on offering the new SDK released alongside the Play Services update will expand the number of mobile apps taking advantage of Chromecast capability and support. Google Cast SDK for iOS is available now, while the Android version will roll out alongside the Play Services update over the next few days.
