For years Verizon Corp has been expressing interest in assuming Vodafone’s 45% share of Verizon Wireless. Today, reports indicate that Vodafone may finally be considering an offer from the U.S. telecom.
Analyst and other chatter-based reports indicate that Vodafone is considering a $45 to $48 billion offer for their stake in the company, down from their offer of $56 billion. Upon transaction, Verizon would assume full stake in Verizon Wireless, however, Verizon already wields decision-making control over the wireless carrier as majority holder.
Tensions between Verizon and Vodafone have persisted ever since Verizon Wireless chose to use the CDMA platform, rendering Verizon and Vodafone on different and incompatible networks. Vodafone has tried to dump Verizon Wireless in the past, making a bid for AT&T Wireless by offering to sell its stake in Verizon Wireless back in 2003.
