Virgin Mobile Making Changes to Mobile Broadband Plans

By Humberto Saabedra on October 9, 2013

Virgin Mobile logoCurrent users of Virgin Mobile’s mobile broadband service are being advised that changes are coming to the service provider’s mobile broadband plans after this month which match other changes to mobile broadband previously made by Sprint. Currently, customers can still renew service under the old plans this month, listed below for reference.

OldVM Mobile Broadband Plans

$5 per day for 200MB of 3G data and *Unlimited 4G (500MB maximum per fine print)
$35 per month for 2GB of 3G data and *Unlimited 4G (10GB maximum per fine print)
$55 per month for 5GB of 3G data and *Unlimited 4G (10GB maximum per fine print)

The new plans rolling out in the future for current customers and already available for new customers since September will look like this:

New Virgin Mobile Broadband plans

$5 per day for 250MB of 3G & 4G data combined
$25 per month for 1.5GB of 3G & 4G data combined
$55 per month for 6GB of 3G & 4G data combined

While the changes line up with current Sprint mobile broadband policy, Virgin Mobile has yet to explain the changes, which have already upset long-time users. A request for confirmation has been sent to Virgin Mobile and is expected soon. Currently, Virgin Mobile offers mobile broadband hardware powered by WiMAX and has yet to release LTE hardware for mobile broadband access, while it offers LTE tethering via its LTE smartphone lineup for an additional monthly cost.
