Verizon Wireless has announced that coverage for its MediaFLO powered VCAST Mobile TV service has been expanded to cover San Francisco, Sacramento, and Fresno in California.
This follows initial service expansion in the wake of the digital television transition which began on the weekend of June 12th and affects Qualcomm’s FLO service as it operates on analog channel 68 which lies on the upper end of the 700MHz band.
Qualcomm initially planned to begin service expansion on February 17th, but the federal government stepped in to delay the digital television transition in order to ensure readiness for everyone, which led to Qualcomm shelving expansion plans until analog transmission was ended recently.
